Naturally Better Beef

One Animal. One Source.

Most retail beef comes from a mix of many different animals, often processed and blended together before it ever reaches the store. When you buy direct from Spring Water Ranch, every cut in your freezer comes from a single cow — giving you traceability, consistency, and the peace of mind of knowing exactly where your beef came from.

What Sets Our Beef Apart

On over 40 acres of open pasture, our cattle roam freely and thrive through a system of rotational grazing that keeps the land healthy and the forage diverse. In Colorado’s high country, they graze on mineral-rich grasses unique to higher elevations. Combined with careful finishing, this produces beef that’s naturally flavorful, well-balanced, and raised without shortcuts.

In contrast, much of today’s conventional beef is produced in feedlots where cattle are given daily rations with added antibiotics, testosterone implants to accelerate weight gain, and MGA to suppress natural cycles in heifers. These practices maximize efficiency, but not necessarily quality.

At Spring Water Ranch, we believe beef should be raised with care, not shortcuts — resulting in meat that’s healthier for the land, the animals, and your table.

True "Product of the USA"

Did you know much of the beef labeled “Product of the USA” can actually be imported from other countries, then simply repackaged here? Our beef is different. Every animal is born, raised, and butchered in Colorado — making it not just a true product of the USA, but proudly a product of Colorado from start to finish.

Why Dry Aging Matters

Our beef is dry-aged for 14 days — a traditional process that naturally tenderizes the meat and deepens its rich, beefy flavor. During this time, natural enzymes break down muscle fibers while the outer layer protects the meat, resulting in a smooth, buttery texture you simply won’t find in most supermarket beef.

By comparison, much of the beef sold in stores is never aged at all. Instead, it’s processed quickly, sprayed with chemical rinses to reduce bacteria, and frozen before being thawed for sale. It may look “fresh,” but it skips the time-honored steps that bring out true flavor.

With dry aging, less chemistry and more patience does the work — giving you beef that’s naturally safer, cleaner, and unmistakably delicious.

Hanging Weight: Buyer Beware:

Many ranchers sell by “hanging weight,” leaving customers responsible for unexpected processing fees and communication with a butcher they don’t know. This often creates confusion — the customer thought they were buying from the rancher, but ends up navigating the final steps with someone else.

Hidden in the hanging weight pricing model is something most Buyers are never told about, yield. When you purchase a cow share The yield is the percent of actual Beef you receive from the "hanging weight". The effective cost/lb significantly increases or decreases based on yield.

Using these assumptions for a whole cow share for example:

Average Hanging Weight (1 cow) = 750 lb

Due to Rancher: $8.00/lb = $6,000

Processing & Slaughter Fees: $1.65 * 750 lbs = $1,237.50

Total = $7,237.50

Packaged Beef Beef Purchase Processing & Slaughter
($1.65/lb)
Total Paid Effective Cost/lb
410 lb (54.7% Yield) $6,000 $1,237.50 $7,237.50 $17.65
425 lb (56.7% Yield) $6,000 $1,237.50 $7,237.50 $17.02
440 lb (58.7% Yield) $6,000 $1,237.50 $7,237.50 $16.44
450 lb (60.0% Yield) $6,000 $1,237.50 $7,237.50 $16.08
465 lb (62.0% Yield) $6,000 $1,237.50 $7,237.50 $15.56

If yield is lower than average, you as a customer are penalized. At Spring Water Ranch you pay the same flat rate for every pound of beef delivered.
